Practice-area pages that actually convert
Your homepage gets the attention. Your practice-area pages get the client. That's where a prospect who searched "wrongful termination lawyer" lands, reads for ninety seconds, and decides whether to call you or keep scrolling. Most of these pages read like a brochure: a paragraph of legalese and a phone number in the footer. Here's the structure that actually books consultations.
1. A headline that names their problem
Lead with the client's situation, not your firm's name. "Facing DUI charges in [City]? You have options." beats "DUI Defense." The visitor should feel, instantly, that this page is about them.
2. Empathy first, then authority
Open by acknowledging the stress they're under, then establish why you're the person to handle it. Anxious clients hire the attorney who seems to understand their problem, not the one who lists the most statutes. Warmth and competence aren't in tension. You need both.
3. What you actually handle
Be specific about the matters you take within this area. Specificity does two jobs: it reassures the right client that you've seen their exact situation, and it gives search engines the detail they need to rank you for it.
4. What to expect
Uncertainty is what keeps people from calling. A short "what happens next" covering the free consultation, how you communicate, and roughly how the process unfolds removes the fear of the unknown that stalls a decision.
5. Proof
Relevant results, a real client testimonial, and a photo of the attorney do more than any adjective. Keep claims accurate and compliant with your bar's rules, but don't hide your track record. An anxious client is looking for a reason to trust you; give them one.
6. Answer the real questions
A short FAQ that answers what clients actually ask ("How much does this cost?", "How long will it take?", "What if I can't afford it?") resolves objections on the page instead of losing the visitor to a competitor who addressed them.
7. One clear call to action
End with a single, obvious next step, repeated where it counts: book a consultation, or call. Not a menu of five options. One. The page has done its job when the decision left is easy and the button is right there.
Every practice-area page should be able to earn a call on its own, without the visitor ever seeing your homepage.
The mistakes to avoid
Don't write for other lawyers. Write for the frightened, non-lawyer human who found you. Don't bury the phone number. Don't reuse one generic template across ten practice areas with the names swapped; thin, duplicated pages help no one and can hurt your rankings. Build fewer pages, and make each one genuinely useful.
